University College Provides Academic “Second Life”
Hans E. Tausig served in the U.S. Army, entered the global shipping business, and retired before returning to college to open the door to a second life in arts and letters. After his retirement in 1984, his college journey—begun decades earlier as a self-described “college tramp”—was resurrected while he attended his daughter’s graduation. “I was sitting in the crowd, thinking to myself, ‘This is ridiculous! My oldest child has her first degree and I don’t,” he says.
New Program: B.A. in Psychology
University College has joined with the Adelphi University Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies to offer the undergraduate B.A. in psychology.

University College Offers Flexibility
Stephen B. Jones ’89 may have spent nearly 20 years at ABC News Radio, New York, currently as vice president-general manager (since 2003), but his journalism career began as a 14-year-old boy armed with a bike and a police scanner.
Certificate in Basic Sciences for Health Professions
A post-baccalaureate pre-med program, the Certificate in Basic Sciences for Health Professions was created for students who have already graduated with a bachelor’s degree in a nonscience subject, but want to pursue a career as a doctor, dentist, or veterinarian. This program is designed to assist these unique students in achieving their graduate school.

University College Energizes Its Students
Like many a working adult, it took Marcia Feuer quite a while to get her baccalaureate degree. “It took me 17 years,” she says, including stints in Vermont and at Hofstra University before coming to Adelphi. That’s because, she says, “I had no interest. I didn’t know what I wanted to do.”

This fall, University College will offer a new M.S. in emergency management.
University College Named an Adult Learning Focused Institution
Adelphi’s University College has become the newest member of the Council on Adult and Experiential Learning’s (CAEL) Coalition of Adult Learning Focused Institutions (ALFI)—and one of only three ALFI member institutions in New York State.

University College Changes Lives
Kristin Cangemi ’09 is exactly the kind of student who finds success at University College—smart, experienced, and determined. Thirteen years after graduating from Valley Stream High School and pursuing a career in the financial industry, Kristin earned her bachelor’s degree in literature from University College and is working on her master’s in secondary education at Adelphi’s Ruth S. Ammon School of Education.
