A.A. in Liberal Arts—Pre-Nursing Concentration

We give credit for your licensed practical nurse training.

We’ve partnered with the School of Nursing to offer a unique degree program for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) who want to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing. With our program, you can:

• receive college Life Experience credit for your LPN training
• receive credit for other work experiences
• take convenient courses that allow you to work full time
• finish your bachelor’s degree program in less time and at less cost

To be admitted to the A.A. degree program, students must have a current New York State license as an LPN. The A.A. in Liberal Arts: Pre-Nursing Concentration can lead to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi’s School of Nursing. While it does not guarantee admission into this program, enrolled students are well prepared to meet the following requirements:

• complete the A.A. with a cumulative GPA of 3.0
• take the TEAS entrance exam
• complete prerequisite courses for the B.S.N. program:
  • CHE 109 Physiological Chemistry Lecture
  • MTH 113 Survey of Statistics
  • PIA 114 Developmental Psychology through the Lifespan
  • BIO 209 Emerging Trends in Genetics
  • BIO 210 Pathophysiology
  • NUR 232 Informatics in Health Care
  • NUR 233 Nutrition in Nursing

Candidates for this degree must have completed at least 64 credits, 30 of which must be taken in graded course work at the University. No more than 34 of the total credits may be awarded from life experience. In addition to the 16 credits of core liberal arts requirements, the A.A. in Liberal Arts requires two humanistic studies foundation courses, two social sciences foundation courses, and two art courses. Students must also complete 24 to 30 elective credits chosen with the help of their academic advisor. In all cases, candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
